Bob Rosand at Barb's Barn - Saturday Session

Click on thumbnail for full size image

The Rosand Hands On Session for Saturday began under cloudy skies

The Friday session focused on skills building and Saturday session was lidded boxes

Bob does a bit of sharpening with Lance Kanaby and Muriel Kummer

Barb gets the session kicked off promptly at 9:30 with the rules and the days agenda

We had a full house with 11 students in the class

Bob starts out the lidded box demo by preparing a glue block

He rounds his walnut for the box

After rounding, he separates the bottom and the lid on the band saw using the V block

The V block is a simple, home-made jig that allows round stock to be cut safely

The stock is located in the block and can be cut without the stock spinning

After gluing the bottom piece to the glue block, Bob does some shaping

He does most of the shaping but leaves sufficient material at the bottom for strength

Bob hollows the inside of the box using a Forstner bit

The entrance is cleaned up and squared using a round skew chisel

After cleaning up the interface area, the bottom is ready for the outside decoration

Bob lays out and starts cutting his scalloped pattern
