Announcements

V-Pres, Rusty Ellis, informed us that Jan demo will be done by Paul Mazuchowski. He will show us how he makes his flowers.

Treas., Pat Boggan, told us that she will have to make more bank transactions because of the bank’s policy charging for not making enough transactions.

Librarian, Paul Boland reports all is well

Pres., Ron Hudson, informed members he has AAW membership applications available. Also that Thompson Tools Co. gave the club 4 gift certificates. They do expire March 1, 2011, so they will be given out for show & tell for the next two meetings.

Reminder: Club dues are due Jan and Feb.

Lost jaws for the chuck were found.

Last month at auction a circular was left. If you bought it, Ron Hudson has it.

Old Business

The purchase of a tape recorder for the Secretary was discussed. Treasurer, Pat Boggan, has done some research on them. A motion was made by Ron and seconded by Pat to purchase a recorded with a chip that can be mailed back and forth if the secretary is not in town for a meeting. Motion passed.  Pat will make the purchase.

By laws are to be put on the website.

New Business

Paul Mazuchowski suggested that Jim Hilburger and Barb Berger be given lifetime membership in Wood Turner’s II. He made a motion which was seconded by Brian Defoe. It was passed.

Jim Hilburger suggested that our club run like the Rochester club that he recently visited. The biggest change would be to have committees instead of 1 person to be in charge of the various duties of the club, such as demos for the year. Also a Board of Director would run the club.

It was suggested that we need more information about how their club is run. Paul Mazuchowski volunteered to contact Mike Hachey to come to the club and explain their way.

Rich Mialki informed the members about a program that MInwax Co has that award a club for the things they do for the betterment of their community. He offered to submit, to Minwax, what the 4 clubs do for Make-A-wish every year.

DEMO

Jim Hilburger did the demo showing us quick turns; items that are sellers good for the fair.

He did tops, bottle corks. & small and lag toothpick holders.

As usual it was a fast and informative demo. Thank you Jim for sharing your humor and expertise with us.

ELMER’S CORNER

Found in Dec/Jan 2010 Wood Magazine:  Super-quick fix for stripped screw holes.

The small screws needed for hinges strip out pilot holes easily. Fortunately a little cyanoacrylate(CA) glue fixes them just as easily. Simply fill the stripped hole with CA glue, let it cure a couple minutes, and re-install the screw. It works for any size screw and any type of wood.

Respectfully submitted,

Muriel Kummer
