WNY WOODTURNERS II
Meetings 7:30 PM; Second Thursday
Hamburg Middle School
360 Division Street
Hamburg, New York
President’s Corner
Fellow
members of the wood turners 2, I hope your new year started out better than our
club new year. With the two past meetings having been canceled due to the
weather, this year has started poorly.
It is my hope that with the March meeting we can get off to a flying
start,
First I
would again remind you of getting stared building an inventory of objects for
the fair, to raise money for Make-A-Wish.
As you know, this is the time of the year that we have more time to
turn, before good weather gets us busy with outside activities.
If fifty
members turned ten items worth five dollars each, we could have twenty five
hundred dollars raised toward our goal.
Also, with that many turners, there is a better chance to have a variety
which would improve sales. Let this be
an entire club project.
Also, out
vice-president, John O’Neil, has scheduled interesting demos for upcoming meetings.
While on that subject, we are always looking for turners to demo their
talents. If you are interested, speak
to John. I’m sure there are turners
that have demonstrated, that would guide you on how to present one. Give it a
thought.
Hope to see
you at this month’s meeting.

Woodworker: Scratch-Free Flush Cuts
No matter
how carefully, you cut with a flush-cutting saw, there is always the chance
that scratch marks are left on the wood surface. To solve the problem, attach a
playing card with double-faced tape on the sides of the saw blade. Now, when
you cut the card limits the saw depth of the cut. By sawing the dowel halfway,
then finish from the opposite side, the dowel stands a wee bit proud, but less
scratching occurs. With quick finish sanding the dowel is flush.
Respectfully
submitted,
