Old Business Items:
On a sad note, Mr. Mialki informed us of the passing of John Henrich on November 30, 2013 at the age of 89. Our thoughts and/or prayers are for his family. I sent a card to them on behalf of the Woodturners Club.
Richard is also working on a proposal for an all day demo and possibly a “hands on demo” the following day. He informed us that between the three clubs, he has about 60 interested members. More on this will follow as the details are progressed.
We were informed that Jim Cunning was selected by the AAW from our club to attend the Jim Campbell School course offered by their scholarship grants.
New Business Items:
The Chattahoochee Woodturners web page has 8 short films on meeting and demo preparations, and presentations done with an AAW Grant. They are filled with helpful information. If you are interested, they can be found by going to the website:
In the search area, type Chattahoochee woodturner.
In the Google display, click on Chapters – Best Practices.
Scroll down to Meetings and Demonstrations.
Brianne Corbett reported that our Web site is in order, and up to date. Also, Bob Ball
reported that the DVD Library is available and ready to loan out Woodturning DVD’s to anyone who is interested. A list of these videos is available on our Website. The code word for the month of January is Ash. Make a note of it for the next meeting.
Gene Renzoni asked that if anyone had any Toys for the Aspire Party to please contact him for pick up if necessary. The Party is scheduled for the 13th of December and is at the Binner Building in the Maryvale School Complex. All members and guests are welcome.
A discussion on name tags was initiated by Richard. All members should have a name tag, and it should be worn at meetings. We have several new members and this would help our
regular members as well as identifying new members at show and tell. If you do not have a name tag please contact me or Norm Kosmerl and we will see that one is made for you.
Along those lines of the show and tell tables, there will be white index cards placed out for anyone who is displaying items. Please fill one out with your name, type of turning, and any additional information you would like, such as type of wood etc. These cards will be picked up at the end of the show and tell and used by me for the Newsletter, and our photographer for the webpage. All members must use a file card if introducing any items.
Show and Tell participants included:
The show and tell portion was given by: Brianne Corbett, Joe Wiesnet, Bob Ball, Richard Mialki, Frank Becker, Brian Effinger, Mike Gotthelf, and Norm Kosmerl. A nice variety of turnings were displayed.
There was no demo this month as it was our annual Christmas Party for our members.
Our next meeting will be at the Maryvale High School Shop on Thursday, January 02, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. The following demos are scheduled:
January - Brianne Corbett on Airbrushing.
February - Brianne Corbett on using the D-Way beader
March - Joe Wiesnet on coring
We are always looking for members to do demonstrations or give us some ideas for our programs. If you would like to do a demo for us, have any new ideas, or are just interested in learning something specific, mention it to our Vice President, Steve Imerese or send me an e-mail and I will forward it to him for handling. The meeting was concluded at 2015 hours.
On behalf of our Club Officers I would like to wish all our members and their families a very happy holiday season, and a healthy and prosperous new year. See you in 2014!
Respectfully submitted by,
J. A. Mussari
