Business Items:

Richard advised that Don Hoffman has become ill with an Alzheimer’s disorder and is under care. Our best wishes go out to Don and his family.

Paul Mazuchowski is at home under recovery and is doing well. His address is 131 Francis Avenue Sloan, New York 14212 for anyone desiring to send a card.  I have already sent one on behalf of the Woodturners.

Names were drawn from our member list to be nominated for the drawing at the AAW Scholarship Program.  Jim Cunning was the first draw to accept and Brian Effinger was drawn as an alternate in the case of Jim not wishing to participate if selected by the AAW.  More information is available on the AAW Website at woodturner.org

Also Richard brought in a nice little article about our  Make-A-Wish project that was printed in the North Cheektowaga Source Paper on September 13, 2013 by Mia Summerson. The article informed readers about our contributions, and how they are dispersed to area families.

I have sent a letter of request to the S.E.F.C.U. Foundation (State Employees Federal Credit Union), where my wife is employed, to see if they again this year will help us support the Aspire Christmas Party in December.  I will keep all posted on any response that I may receive.  They have helped us in the past few years and I am in hopes that they will help again for 2013.   Gene Renzoni advised the exact date for the party has not been set yet, but we should know by the November meeting.  Please start gathering up or making your item for the children.  If anyone would like more information, you may contact Gene Renzoni who is the chairperson for this event.  Gene also has miscellaneous parts such as wheels and smoke stacks that can be used to make vehicles for the children at Aspire.  If you would like to use some contact Gene.

The club purchase 3 gift certificates at Rockler’s for our Show and Tell participants, and

Rockler’s donated 6 more in addition.  These will be used in the drawings for the members entering their items.

Mr. Mialki also received another box of wood from Northwoods.  If anyone would like some

to make items for the Fair contact Richard.  But, please remember this wood is to be used only for items that will be donated for the Fair sales tables.

And finally at the business meeting Mr. Mialki brought up a motion that all regular members dues be cut in half to $10.00 per member for the year 2014.  Motion was sustained, and members dues for this coming year will be $10.00 for each member.

Show and Tell participants included:

The show and tell portion was given by:  Brianne Corbett, Joe Wiesnet, Mike Todd, Bob Ball, and Richard Mialki.  A nice variety of turnings were displayed.

Club Demonstration:

There was no demo scheduled at this meeting because it was our “Annual Auction Night”.  A great variety of tools, books, magazines, woods and special shop items were auctioned off. I did not receive the exact amount our sales, but all in all I think it was very successful.  Thank you members for your contributions, and to Mr. Vasi our auctioneer, for a great job well done!

We are always looking for members to do demonstrations or give us some ideas for our programs.  If you would like to do a demo for us, have any new ideas, or are just interested in learning something specific, mention it to our Vice President, Steve Imerese or send me an e-mail and I will forward it to him for handling.

Next Meeting/Demo:

Our next meeting will be at the Maryvale High School Shop on Thursday, November 07, 2013 at 7:00 p.m.  The scheduled demo by Richard and Steve Imerese will be Patrick J. Marren, Senior Forester Region 9, of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, who will give a talk on the Emerald Ash Borer.  This should be very interesting and informative.

This meeting was concluded at 2110 hours (9:10 pm).
