There were two guests present at this meeting. Lowell Todd and David Hoffman. Both gentlemen joined our club at the start of this meeting. Welcome aboard to Lowell and David, we hope you enjoy your new membership.
Mr. Ball reminded us that the Fair is scheduled for August 7th, through the 18th, of August 2013. We are still looking for any items, especially larger bowls, for the sales tables, Please start working on any items you wish to donate for the Make-A-Wish benefit. These items can be brought to any meetings prior to the Fair. Just a reminder, members will not be reimbursed for any items, or kits used in the items for the Fair. These are considered donations by our members who participate in this event. Thank you for understanding…
A new Fair schedule for working the tables was brought out at this months meeting. Please sign up as early as possible, so other members can do any advance planning they may have at work or elsewhere. There are quite a few shifts available, and we need the help.
Richard Mialki informed us of a few new symposiums that are coming up on June 29, and 30 at Tampa Florida, and October 11th, through the 13th, at Cincinnati Ohio. More in depth information is available on these at the AAW Website. www.woodturner.org
Rich also reported that Richard Radel, and Jim Hilburger are both progressing back to good health steadily. Our best wishes are with them both.
There are two upcoming demos at Barb’s Barn. September 15th John Cave will be doing lidded boxes and there is still one opening, and on August 25th Gary Jones will do a demo for new Woodturners. The fee is $5.00 per person for the use of the facility, to help defray the cost of the utilities, and the students are asked to help with the clean up after the demos. If you are interested please contact Barb Berger at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 716-652-4156
There is also a demo on July 9th, in Corfu, N.Y. that will be given by metal spinners. It is a great experience to see these guys do their work. Jim Rupracht advised that the metal spinning demo will follow a brief business meeting starting at 6:30 p.m. sharp at “The Market” 47 West Main Street (Route 33) Corfu, N.Y. 14036. At the conclusion of the meeting, members will walk over to the metal shop which is across the street for this demo. If members wish, there will be refreshments available back at “The Market” afterwards. Also, Jim noted that the legal speed limit for Corfu, N.Y. is 35 m.p.h. and the local Police adhere very strongly to this restriction. As they say in the railroad industry;
- Be governed accordingly. -
Also, Mr. Mialki has talked with some people from North Woods Figured woods located in Forest Grove, Or. www.nwfiguredwoods.com They are sellers of various hardwoods for turners. A sample box is being shipped to us to check out the products, and possibly purchase some at a discounted price. I understand that some of this sample wood will be distributed at the July meeting to the Club Members who will use to make items for the Fair.
He also has made arrangements to try out a new speaker system that has been loaned to the Club for testing and trial use.
As some of you are aware, Brian Effinger can no longer be available to do our club photography, we desperately need this for our postings on the website, club functions, and promotional doings. If you have a digital camera and can do a little photo work for us please contact one of the club officers or e-mail me at the address email@example.com
There are still some outstanding delinquent dues. 2013 Dues were payable to our Treasurer Mr. Kosmerl by January 01, 2013. The fee is $20.00 per year for regular members. Please keep your dues up to date. A letter of request for dues was sent to each member by US Mail on June 11, 2013. Any member not responding by June 30, 2013 will be removed from our roster. Are your dues current?
Show and Tell participants included:
The show and tell portion was given by: Brianne Corbett, Richard Mialki, John Henrich, Gene Renzoni, Don O’Connor, and Jim Schnellinger. Thank you all! Your projects were great.
In the absence of Jim Vasi, Richard Mialki gave our club demo this month. Richard did a couple of old time favorites of some turners called the stick pen and whistle. These would be great items for the Fair Tables. Thanks Richard, nice job!
We are always looking for members to do demonstrations or give us some ideas for our programs. If you would like to do a demo for us, have any new ideas, or are just interested in learning something specific, mention it to Steve Imerese our Vice President. .
PLEASE NOTE: There is a holiday change in the meeting schedule for July:
Our next meeting will be at the Maryvale High School Shop on Wednesday July 3rd, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. The date and day have been advanced because of the Holiday July 4th. The demo that is currently scheduled is for Gary Jones to do a wedding goblet. These are beautiful items that Gary makes and donates at the Fair, and it will be an interesting demo.
Please have a very safe and happy holiday!
