Western New York Woodturners Club 1
Newsletter & Minutes of April 05, 2012 Meeting
Maryvale High School Woodshop Room #120
1050 Maryvale Drive
Cheektowaga, New York 14225
32 Regular members present.
The meeting was called to order 1915 hours by Mr. Imerese – President. In addition to our regular members, there were two others present. One of our newest members Leon Nowicki, brought another daughter, Renee Dietz who may be interested in wood turning.
In addition to that, Frank Stanko brought his neighbor and friend Tim Batt. Tim shared with us a picture collage of Mr. Stanko’s turnings. It was a nice a piece of art work that I’m sure a lot of turners would like made from the photos of their turned pieces. Great job Tim, and welcome to our guests. We are glad to have you.
The 50/50 club of $17.00 was drawn and awarded to Paul Wilhelm. Congrats Paul!

Bob Ball asked us to start thinking about preparing for the fair items. The fair is just a few short months away, and it creeps up fast on us. Volunteers are always needed, if you are a new member, or a regular member who has never participated, and are interested in helping out please let one of the club officers know at the next meeting or by e-mail. (The club officers are noted on your membership address list.) Volunteers are needed for working the sales tables and turning at the entrance to our display. There are 140 shift openings that have to be covered during the fair hours. Bob is also looking for vehicles to transport some turned items from his storage facility to the fair. We can use your help. You will be advised when the new 2012 “sign-up” sheet will be available.
Show and Tell participants included:
A great show and tell portion was done by Brianne Corbett, Ray Bisonette, Jim Vasi, Frank Stanko, Tim Batt, Steve Imerese who donated two beautiful segmented turnings for the Make-a-wish Fair sale, David Day, Brian Effinger, Mike Gotthelf, and Paul Wilhelm. Really nice items were on display for us. There is some real talent within this club’s membership.
Our Demo which was on how to market and sell your items was hosted by Ray Bisonette and was presented by Jim Vasi, Marwin Feldman David Day. We all got some great ideas and learned some of the problems associated with selling at craft shows and other sale places.
We are always looking for members to do demonstrations or give us some ideas for our programs. If you would like to do a demo for us, have any new ideas, or are just interested in learning something specific, mention it to one of the Vice President’s committee members. I am sure that they will do their best to produce results. The committee members are: Jim Cunning, Paul Wilhelm, and Brian Young.
Our next meeting will be at the Maryvale High School Shop on Thursday May 03, 2012 at 1900 hours (7:00 pm.) sharp. At this time the scheduled demo will be done by our photographer Brian Effinger. He will demonstrate how to make a tool for applying designs to wood.
This meeting was concluded at 2044 hours (8:44 pm).
