Business Items: Jim Vasi opened meeting with the 50/50 drawing. Don Hoffmann won $24. Jim recognized some visitors including John Lunney, a former member of our group. John related he has started the “Thousand Island Woodturners” in LaFargeville, NY, tel 315-686-2319. He stated the currently have seven members. Note Jim Vasi is president of WNY Woodturners I, meeting the 1st Thursday of the month, Kurt Hertzog is president of WNY Woodturners II meeting the 2nd Thursday of the month, Jim Schnellinger is president of Pembroke Woodturners Guild meeting the 2nd Tuesday of the month and Lance Kanaby is president of Lockport Woodworkers meeting 1st Tuesday of the month. What a great dedicated group. Jim Vasi discussed the “Mentoring Program” to help and advise old and new members about turning. To date, the volunteer mentors are, Jim Hilburger – Southtowns, Steve Imerese – Amherst, Marwin Feldman – Snyder and Jim Vasi – Williamsville. We would like to add to this list. How about some other members signing up!!!
Pepper Weinheimer has submitted the leader names for the work we do at the Erie County Fair. For 2005 the leaders are Bob Ball, Jim Hilburger, and Steve Imerese. Jim Hilburger requested members to please start to make items to sell soon, we almost ran out of items last year. The dates of the fair are from Wednesday August 10th thru Sunday August 21st. Check out the sign-up sheet at the May meeting. Remember, all proceeds are for the benefit of “Make-a-wish”. When you work, you get free admission and free parking.

There will be two classes on making peppermills at Barb's Barn. The two sessions are identical so pick the one that suits your schedule. They will taught by Jim Hilburger on Friday, May 6th and Friday, May 13th. Contact Barb at GramaBBB@aol.com or 652-4156 for details or to register. Be sure to put "turning" in the subject line.
The Annual Picnic will be held on Wednesday, June 22nd. We need helpers to plan and staff the event. Please contact Milt Ehrenberg if you can lend a hand. You can reach Milt at firstname.lastname@example.org or 837-7989. More details as we get closer. There will be no July meeting for the club.
The September meeting can not be held on our usual "first Thursday of the month" since school won't be open by the 1st. We will hold our September meeting on Wednesday, September 7th to avoid conflicts with the other area club meeting dates.
Show & Tell: Jim Schnellinger – vase, Jim Vasi – wine corks, Mike Hachey – cutting board, trivet & scoops Rich Malki – birch bowl & off-center duck turning, Jim Rupracht – plates, Kurt Hertzog – walnut plates & threaded objects, Marwin Feldman – corian cheese tray. Frank Stanko – box elder bowls & tools he made for interior cuts on small opening objects, John Lunney – big bowl & warning to be safe while turning. Thanks to all !!!
Demo: Steve Imerese brought his tools and work in progress for making segmented bowls, plates & vases. A great, hands-on demo, cutting & gluing and visualizing what can be done with imagination. Thanks Steve.
