It was brought up that Jim Hilburger was still recuperating at home. Our “Get Well” thoughts are with you Jim for a quick recovery. We miss you at the meetings, and the local Make –A- Wish staff wishes you well also.
We still have some outstanding delinquent dues. 2013 Dues were payable to our Treasurer Mr. Kosmerl by January 01, 2013. The fee is $20.00 per year for regular members. Please keep your dues up to date. Any members in the arrears will have their names removed from the new mailing list.
J. Mussari, offered that he had received a contribution of $578.00 for Make-A-Wish from
Gary and Marge Jones who are wintering in the state of Florida. The money was gathered from a social event where Gary and Marge set up a table of his turnings and sold them for us with the proceeds to go to Make-A-Wish. What a great job! Thank you both for your efforts. It was appreciated by all.
The clubs insurance coverage is still quite an issue. Rich Mialki laid out some of the options available for us, but there are still quite a few outstanding questions that have to worked on prior to making a decision on which, or what type of policy to buy. There are many variables in the policies from the various carriers. The conversation became involved and Brianne Corbett made a motion to set up a committee of members, Ball, Nowicki, and Mialki to investigate the options, make a decision and purchase a policy that would not exceed a limit of one thousand dollars. The motion was seconded by N. Kosmerl. You will be advised of the findings at the next meeting if at all possible. We are covered by our existing policy until April.
Marwin Feldman will start a notebook of “Woodturners Tips” to keep on hand for members references. Great Idea!. Thanks Marwin.
Bob Ball reminded us that we are always in need of help for the fair committee. If you are interested in helping us, please notify the undersigned and I will progress with the proper
Because we are always thinking safety, it was brought up that we needed a shield of some sort for the demos given at the school lathe. Jim Vasi will check into this and will advise us at the next meeting. There is no doubt in my mind that Jim is the man for this job.
Because of the length of time allowed for the meetings, it was deemed necessary to cut the show and tell portion of the meeting to two minutes for each member. Further each member should bring in only on item at a time if at all possible. By doing this, there will be more time allotted for the demo portion, and members will have and additional chance to will a gift certificate for entering the show and tell item.
Show and Tell participants included:
The show and tell portion was given by: Brianne Corbett, Mike Gotthelf, Richard Mialki, Larry Scaglione, Eugen Schlaak, Brian Effinger, Marwin Feldman, Jim Vasi, Paul Wilhelm, and Ward Beaton. Thank you all! Your projects were great. The gift certificate winner for the Show and Tell raffle was Ward Beaton.
The Club demo was given by Brianne Corbett on turning a thin wall bowl. Great demo Brianne. Thank you.
We are always looking for members to do demonstrations or give us some ideas for our programs. If you would like to do a demo for us, have any new ideas, or are just interested in learning something specific, mention it to Steve Imerese our Vice President. .
Our next meeting will be at the Maryvale High School Shop on Thursday April 04, 2013 at 1900 hours (7:00 pm.) sharp. There is a demo scheduled that will be done by Bruce Trojan from Rochester. He will be doing off center turnings. This should be a good one.
SPECIAL NOTE: Please remember to show your membership card at the Rockler’s store for any discounts available and so our club gets credit towards gift certificates for the Show and tell raffles.
