Mr. Michael Holley of Aspire of Western New York attended our meeting and presented the members with a framed picture of the Christmas Party held on December 14, 2010 at the Learning Center as a thank you for supporting their project. Our members did an outstanding job producing the toys and gifts for the children, and a great time was had by all. A special thanks to Jim Shimwell, who works on this all year to make it the success that it is.
Jim Rupracht reported that there were 32 members in attendance at the Corfu Demonstration by Binh Poh on December 5th, 2010. The cost of the Demo was $ 971.70 with 510.00 received at the door, the clubs split the balance due at $ 208.35 each. Thank you Jim and all the members who helped produce this fine demonstration. We received the pieces turned by Binh, and would like to do something with them to display Mr. Poh’s talents. This will be discussed at a future meeting, and if you have any ideas please forward them to Jim.
Jim also stated he placed a request for a grant for us to supplement Aspire, and Make A Wish if we get the award. Thank you, Jim.
Richard Mialki informed us that the date for the Minwax contest was missed for the grant. I’m sure he will try again next year.
Richard also stated that there is a Challenger Learning Center going to open in Lockport, N.Y. in the near future to demonstrate various science and space projects to children in grades 5 through 10. They are looking for volunteers to help with the star up and production. Anyone interested should contact Ms. Kathy Michaels, One East Avenue, Lockport, N.Y. 14094. Marwin Feldman requested that a letter of appreciation be sent to Mrs. Ken Miller for her donation of Ken’s tools. (The letter was sent out on January 17th, 2011.)
After some discussion, it was decided that the vacant Vice Presidents position be filled with several members to share the duties. No objections were noted, so thank you Messrs. Brian Young, Paul Wilhelm, and Jim Cunning for volunteering for the position. .
