Announcements
A reminder
to members that the picnic will be on Aug.26 at St Nicademus Church on Liberia
Rd in Elma. If you haven’t signed up yet you have until next month. See Pat
Boggan.
Librarian,
Paul Boland reports there are 2 new DVD’s to borrow. One on Metal spinning, and
an Ellsworth one on the gouge; sharpening and using.
Old Business
The July
meeting will be held at Pat Delmonte’s house in Forrestville. His Address is
9950 Zahm Rd, Forrestville, 14062. For those of you with computers or gps’
punch this in the to get directions. I
will also include directions at the end of this newsletter for those who do not
have these devices. The meeting will start at 7 PM, but Pat invites you to come
early if you like. He will be serving homemade cheesecake after the meeting.
New Business
Rich Mialki
gave an update on the fair. Keep turning it is just around the corner will
start. The sign up sheet can also be found on our website. If you haven’t
signed up to help and want to, you can check the time slots available on the
website and give Rich; 694-5430 or email him MIALKISR@ROADRUNNER.COM.l The
website is updated weekly.
Jake Debski
has 2 of the club’s lathes in his basement; a Vicmarc and a Jet mini. It is
time to do something with them. It was decided by a motion by Rich Mialki and 2nd
by Gary Jones to put a price of $150 for the Jet now, and put it on the website
to sell. Contact Jake at 585-937-7644 if you’re interested in it.

Centering a Lathe Faceplate
Finding the
center of a blank is easy – you just mark diagonal lines across the work piece.
The spot where these lines cross is the center. But trying to center a
faceplate on this spot can be a challenge. However, by finding a spade bit that
is the same diameter as the opening on your faceplate will make this job
easier. Place the point of the bit on
the center point of your blank. While holding the bit in place, slide the
faceplate down over the end of the drill bit. Then screw the faceplate to the
blank.
