Bob does the outside first so that he won't be faced with changes in shape caused by hollowing |
After laying out and cutting his pattern, he coats the work with a sanding sealer and turpentine mix |
This helps with a very clean final cut |

Being left-handed, Bob likes to hollow from the other side of the lathe |
Here he hollows with a home-made tool with a tool steel cutter silver soldered on to a shaft at an angle |
