Turners 2 July Meeting

Some of the folks gathering at Barb's Barn for the Turners 2 July meeting

Because parking is limited, there is a parking lot crew to assure maximum utilization of space

Vice President Rich Sarama gets the meeting started

We began the meeting with our guest presenter, Harry Hunt from Waleska GA

Harry shows some of his froes, original and replicas

His mallet has to do strenuous duty so it's made from a tough root section

To split the log section, use the natural split lines

This log was tough enough to require wedges

Because of the storm, turnout for the meeting was pretty light

With the log section split, Harry selects the section for the seat

By using a froe, the log splits along the grain lines

Harry uses a foot adze to clean up the seat section

Once that is done, a plane can help smooth the seat blank

Next, the material for the stool legs is split out of the log section

With a treadle lathe, round stock is much easier than square stock

Harry rounds the stool leg sections on the shaving horse using a spoke shave
