A large bowl from Rick Crowe

The demonstration was on making pens for the fair by Rick Mialki

Rich shows a fixture that can be used for the long drilling

The drilling requires a longer than standard drill

The drilling done, the open end at the tailstock, the blank is gripped in a chuck

A roughing gouge is used to round the stock

Your choice as to tools for doing the shaping

The grip end needs to be thinned to make a comfortable grip yet care is needed

Shaping can include feining a standard capped pen

The other end is prepped for parting off once the friction finish is done

Almost any finish will work but friction finishes are quick & easy
