The drilling requires a longer than standard drill |
The drilling done, the open end at the tailstock, the blank is gripped in a chuck |
A roughing gouge is used to round the stock |
Your choice as to tools for doing the shaping |

The grip end needs to be thinned to make a comfortable grip yet care is needed |
Shaping can include feining a standard capped pen |
The other end is prepped for parting off once the friction finish is done |
Almost any finish will work but friction finishes are quick & easy |
