On day 2, I attended the Steve Sinner presentation for the first rotation |
Steve, a Chicago area artist, does deep hollow vessels with unique surface decoration |
Steve showed his homebuilt hollowing system |
His hollowing bar is much different than the traditional outrigger types |

Steve chucks up a vessel for hollowing |
After the coarse hollowing, Steve sheds his smock (very hot weather) and ... |
sets up a demo of his home built laser wall thickness measuring system |
Steve finishes with a clever idea for checking contour smoothness |

On the next rotation, I saw Jimmy Clowes doing his design workshop |
Jimmy explains that most pleasing designs have their roots in catenary shapes |
The design workshop was well attended, filling the bleachers and out the door |
Jimmy puts the finishing touches on a demo bowl |

He then covers the concepts of leading the eye with colors and contours |
Jimmy colors the bowl and then creates a gradient |
Some finish sanding on the inside followed by the finish |
The coloration draws your focus right to the inside edge and then inside |
